A short story: The Little Ant

The Little Ant

Once upon a time, there lived a little ant called Ali. He lived in a giant anthill with his huge ant family. He would have been perfectly happy, but his siblings teased him continually, because he was the smallest in his family and the weakest.

One winter, there was a shortage of food. The ants searched and searched for food but there was nothing at all.

Then one ant found a large pot of honey nearby the anthill. She rushed back home to tell the other ants the good news. The ants rushed out in joy and ran to the honey.

But a great disappointment awaited them. There was no opening except for a tiny hole! The ants tried very desperately to get in but they couldn’t, much to their dismay.

Then Ali had a great idea. He was afraid to speak because he was scared that they would tease him, but he gathered his courage and began to speak. ‘Dear ants, the hole is too small for you. I am so small that maybe I could fit in there,’ he spoke bravely. The ants thought about it for a second. Finally they said,’ Ali is right. Maybe he could fit in there. And we will be saved from dying.’

So Ali squeezed in through the hole and got a little honey. He went back to the hole and passed the honey out to the other ants outside. Then they took it back to the anthill. Again. And again.
Finally they had enough to last them for a long time. They were very happy. And they all agreed that Ali was a hero.

Moral: Do not tease others just because they are small and weak. You never know when this smallness might come in useful like in the story. They even might save your life. So never ever tease or bully others.
